Office of the Registrar


  1. To develop, implement and maintain the Institutional Statute, Institutional Rules and other institutional governance policies, rules and structures in order to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and generally accepted governance practices.
  2. To be the custodian of the Institutional Archives and General Records in order to ensure compliance with legislation such as the National Archives Act, the Promotion of Access to Information Act , the Legal Deposit Act, the Electronic Communication and Transaction Act, the Companies Act, etc.
  3. To effectively manage the academic administration of students in order to ensure a quality service to all stakeholders and the integrity of student data.
  4. To provide certain determined legal services to the University in order to ensure, amongst others, the protection of the legal interest of the Institution, compliance with the Student Disciplinary Code, as well as general legal requirements.
  5. To provide a secretariat service to the statutory and governance structures/committees of the NMMU.
